Spline kernels for continuous-space image processing

چکیده
We present an explicit formula for spline kernels; these are defined as the convolution of several B-splines of variable widths hi and degrees ni. The spline kernels are useful for continuous signal processing algorithms that involve Bspline inner-products or the convolution of several spline basis functions. We apply our results to the derivation of spline-based algorithms for two classes of problems. The first is the resizing of images with arbitrary scaling factors. The second is the computation of the Radon transform and of its inverse; in particular, we present a new spline-based version of the filtered backprojection algorithm for tomographic reconstruction. In both cases, our explicit kernel formula allows for the use of high-degree splines; these offer better approximation performance than the conventional lower-order formulations (e.g., piecewise constant or piecewise linear models). keywords: spline kernel, anti-aliasing, resizing, Radon transform, filtered back-projection

Application of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Image Processing for Prediction of the Geometrical Properties of Roasted Pistachio Nuts and Kernels
Roasting is the most common way for pistachio nuts processing, and the purpose of that was to increase the products total acceptability. Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of temperature (90, 120 and 150°C), time (20, 35 and 50 min), and roasting air velocity (0.5, 1.5 and 2.5 m/s) on geometrical attributes of pistachio nuts and kernels including principle dimensions, shape fac...

متن کاملImage registration using stationary velocity fields parameterized by norm-minimizing Wendland kernel
Interpolating kernels are crucial to solving a stationary velocity field (SVF) based image registration problem. This is because, velocity fields need to be computed in non-integer locations during integration. The regularity in the solution to the SVF registration problem is controlled by the regularization term. In a variational formulation, this term is traditionally expressed as a squared n...
متن کاملScale-Space Derived From B-Splines
It is well-known that the linear scale-space theory in computer vision is mainly based on the Gaussian kernel. The purpose of the paper is to propose a scale-space theory based on B-spline kernels. Our aim is twofold. On one hand, we present a general framework and show how B-splines provide a flexible tool to design various scale-space representations: continuous scalespace, dyadic scale-space...
متن کاملImage super - resolution with B - Spline kernels
A novel approach to image super-resolution is described in this paper. By modeling our image acquisition system with a Spline sampling kernel, we are able to retrieve from the samples some statistical information about the observed continuous scene before its acquisition (irradiance light-field). This information, called continuous moments, allows to register exactly a set of low-resolution ima...
